Recently I presented one paper on amount of Telugu that is used in the Telugu channels, in Bengaluru, where Ms.Purandhareswari was the Guest of the Day. I suggested that MA Communication and Journalism should also be taught in regional languages. After all end of the course not all the students are going to work for BBC or any such similar channel. I found it really painful reading titles like 'MORNING NEWS' which is written in Telugu language everyday in the almost all the Telugu News Channels, as if 'morning news' can not be translated into Telugu language. I tried informing to one of the leading channels, to my shock I was informed that "the Television channels are owned by Some People, so the language and everything used in the channel is upto their choice. We have got nothing comment on that." Telugu Television channels almost stopped titling in Telugu language. One can find words like "Producer", "Asst.Director" etc as it is written in Telugu language. Words like 'Darsakathvam', 'Nirmaatha' 'Saha Darsakathvam' are all gone!! Is it not moral responsibility of the channels to promote the regional language? The lady who recieved my phone call from Zee Telugu answered me in such a way that "I should mind my business." I thought of Krishnadevaraya and his words 'Desabhaashalandhu Telugu Lessa!'. I see now ' Desa bhaashalandhu Telugu LESS aa??
Having been working as faculty in Electronic Media discipline, I try suggesting my students to write and think in their mother tongue to translate the real essense of their ideas. Staying away from Andhra Pradesh state for the past 1o years and staying in Tamil Nadu taught a lot to me. I heartfully appreciate Tamilians for one thing - their love for their Mother Tongue. They take all possible measures to treasure!
